Evgeny Bekasov (since 2012) serves as Editor-in-Chief of Vesti channel, aiming to present an impartial picture of life across Russia from Kaliningrad in European Russia to Vladivostok in Far Eastern Russia. Prior to 1 January 2010 when public broadcaster VGTRK rebranded their channels under new branding names; Vesti was initially known by that name.

Russia-24 was banned across Ukraine, Moldova, Britain and European Union following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The channel falsely alleged that the Bucha massacre was staged and suggested footage showing actors placing mannequins on film sets in St. Petersburg may have been Ukrainian soldiers trying to pass off fake corpses as dead.

United Kingdom and Australia imposed sanctions upon Evgeniy Poddubny, one of the top war correspondents and propagandists at Russia-24.
